WMU
Founded in 1888, Woman's Missionary Union is an auxiliary
of the Southern Baptist Convention that seeks to equip adults,
youth, children and preschoolers with missions education to
become radically involved in the mission of God. Headquartered
in Birmingham, Ala., WMU is a nonprofit organization that
offers an array of missions resources including conferences,
ministry ideas and models, volunteer opportunities, curriculum
for age-level organizations, leadership training, books and
more.
The womans missions movement at Kennebec is spearheaded
by our WMU. The Kennebec WMU has two distinct groups. First
is the Young Women on Mission, which meets the second Tuesday
night of each month at 7 p.m. It is designed to provide working
mothers and young women the opportunity to engage in Christian
fellowship and missions work. Women provide a variety of mission
support such as raising money for home and foreign missions
as well as helping with state and local projects. The WMU
actively does Christmas missions as well. Meanwhile, the regular
WMU meetings are held on the second Tuesday at 11 a.m. This
meeting of our more mature ladies, focuses on
local, national, and international mission opportunities and
also includes ample time for food, fellowship & fun.
